Interested in learning PR and digital marketing skills on books, art and culture? This is an entry-level training programme run by Midas, an award-winning communication agency who have worked with Audible and publishers, specifically Penguin and Pan Macmillan. It aims to open doors to people from underrepresented backgrounds who want to break into cultural organisations such as publishing houses, media companies and museums.
In their programme, Midas aims to help talented and passionate individuals with a love for books and the arts to develop their PR and digital marketing skills by working with a team of experienced publicists and digital experts on live campaigns. The trainee will learn first-hand fundamental skills in a friendly and inclusive environment which will better prepare them in finding a role at the end of the placement.
Responsibilities include writing press releases and pitches, researching interesting storylines and features for clients, participating in brainstorming sessions, attending launch events and networking with journalists, keeping up with the latest trends and building relationships with bloggers and influencers for collaboration and many other active roles.
The successful candidate in this entry-level position will have a meticulous eye for detail and knowledge in the media. They will have excellent communication and writing skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Academic Sales Assistant at Kogan Page

Kogan Page, a leading independent business book publisher, is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Academic Sales Assistant to join their team. The role focuses on sales within the academic publishing sector, particularly on winning UK and international adoptions of Kogan Page and CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) titles. The successful candidate will promote the Kogan Page digital book platform and manage academic campaigns and play an important role in generating interest in print titles, eBooks and digital collections among academics.
The successful candidate will engage with academics through face-to-face meetings, emails and phone calls to generate interest and secure adoptions of Kogan Page titles. This role involves significant travel, with up to three days per week spent visiting academic institutions within the designated regional territory. Key responsibilities include managing a pipeline of qualified opportunities, promoting Kogan Page through demand generation activities and implementing regional account plans with the sales team. They will also contribute to marketing campaign strategies and ensure the customer relationship management system is up-to-date.
This entry-level opportunity requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a proactive approach and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. While knowledge of the publishing industry is advantageous, training will be provided. A UK driving licence is beneficial due to the travel requirements of the role.

Translation Rights Admin Assistant at Curtis Brown

Do you have a passion for translation? Would you like the opportunity to apply your language skills to a position at a world-leading literary and talent agency? Curtis Brown is searching for a Translation Rights Admin Assistant to join their translation rights department!
The department is looking for a fluent French speaker to support their translation rights agents and executives on a list of English, French and Italian authors. It is a demanding role, the department handles 250 books each year, with an active backlist that covers over sixty territories.
The successful candidate will need to be a highly organised, positive and motivated individual who is ready to learn and adapt quickly. You will need to be confident handling a large workload including general office administrative duties such as answering phone calls, emails and arranging book orders, post and travel arrangements, drafting and tracking contracts, liaising with Curtis Brown’s legal team, managing invoices and fees, maintaining clients’ details via a database and sending reversion letters when needed. You will need to communicate with primary agents’ offices regarding material, covers, author photos and reviews and be aware of commission splits applying to each partner relationship.
Curtis Brown would ideally like to find a team player who is always happy to assist managers or any other members of the department. You should be friendly and approachable, able to develop positive relationships with both primary agents and clients based on trust and excellent client care. This includes having a general knowledge of clients and titles. You will also be expected to ensure the Curtis Brown website offers maximum promotion opportunities for all clients and their titles by updating with any new translation rights sales, reviews, information and news stories. You may also be asked to read and comment on new material.
Excellent communication skills are a must, as well as a meticulous attention to detail. Any experience in an administrative role would be advantageous, no prior experience in the literature industry is needed as all training will be provided but do include any relevant experience in your application. Fluency in French is an essential requirement.

Sales Intern at Bounce Sales and Marketing

Bounce Sales and Marketing are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented intern for a two month initial temporary contract internship starting from mid-August 2024.
This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in the sales and publishing industry, with a focus on data management, account research, and sales support.
The ideal candidate is a proactive individual with strong organisational and administrative skills and a passion for children’s literature. You will be part of a busy but friendly office team and get the chance to join a member of our field sales force on a monthly account subscription.
Typical tasks include; maintaining and updating databases with accurate information on account opportunities and sales activities, gathering and analysing data on existing accounts to identify opportunities for growth and assisting in preparing sales presentations and sales materials.
No publishing experience or qualification is necessary but familiarity with Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat is beneficial. An interest in children’s publishing is highly desirable alongside a commercial acumen.
