Trainee Editorial Assistant at the Association for Laboratory Medicine

Have you thought about working in the non-profit sector? Looking to gain editorial experience? The Association for Laboratory Medicine is seeking a Trainee Editorial Assistant to join their small and supportive team.


In this role, you will gain highly varied experience across their three main editorial outputs, as well as supporting research for a brand new podcast series being produced by the organisation. You will receive hands-on journal editorial training through proposing and writing news articles, conducting interviews, proofreading and copyediting to house style, copy-chasing and developing your own original portfolio of content. You will also learn how to write for online audiences, gain valuable insight into how academic journals operate and more.


The successful candidate will have a keen interest in developing a career in publishing, have strong verbal and written communication skills and an eye for detail. The team is looking for someone proactive, who is bursting with creativity and open to trying new ideas. An academic or scientific background is advantageous but not essential.


The trainee position is part-time, three days per week for a six-month period and follows a hybrid working pattern with one day in the office and two at home.

Design Assistant (Children’s Books) at Little Tiger

Are you an aspiring designer wanting to start a career in children’s publishing? Want to help design across non-fiction, picture books and more? Little Tiger Press has an entry-level position open at their Caterpillar Books imprint’s team.


As a Design Assistant, you will be expected to complete various roles that are integral to the smooth running of the studio, including liaising with different departments such as Editorial, Production and Sales. You will be assigned tasks such as handling reprints, preparing files for print, supporting the Design team with reformats and new titles, conducting image research, checking proof material and participating in creative meetings.


The successful candidate must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and be excellent at file management. A passion for children’s book design is also expected from someone in the role. A creative eye for detail and being organised, proactive and an excellent communicator are desired in order to meet multiple workloads and tight deadlines. The candidate will also preferably have knowledge of print-ready formats and experience in creating novelty mechanical guides.


Based at their Fulham office, the role is on a hybrid policy of three days in-studio.

Publishing Assistant at Elliott & Thompson

Are you passionate about books and eager to kick-start your career in publishing? Elliott & Thompson, shortlisted for Small Press of the Year 2024, has an exciting opportunity for a Publishing Assistant to join their dynamic team in Farringdon, London. This role is perfect for someone who loves reading and wants to gain hands-on experience across various aspects of publishing, including editorial, production, sales, marketing, publicity and accounts.


As a Publishing Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the team with a range of tasks that are crucial to the successful publication of around twenty new titles each year. Your responsibilities will include providing administrative support, managing systems and processes, contributing to the development of new titles from acquisition through to publication and ongoing sales. 


The ideal candidate will be highly organised, with excellent time-management skills and a keen eye for detail. They should be a confident communicator and team player, and have strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office. While experience in the publishing industry or book trade is a plus, it is not essential. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to fast-track your publishing career and become an integral part of a successful and supportive team. 

This is a hybrid role, based in the Farringdon office three–four days a week, with the option to work full-time in the office if preferred.

Editorial Assistant (Children’s Books) at Little Tiger

Are you a creative individual who wants to work in picture books and non-fiction? Are you passionate about working in children’s editorial?


Little Tiger Press seeks an enthusiastic Editorial Assistant to join the close-knit Caterpillar Books team. As a friendly team player with excellent communication skills, you will contribute to development meetings and work closely with the Design, Production and Marketing teams.


Organisation skills are integral as you must be able to juggle a busy workload and meet tight deadlines. Meticulous attention to detail is essential as this will assist you in proofreading, as well as working accurately to a brief.


Key responsibilities include keeping the studio running smoothly, which is where your organisation skills will be handy. You will be in charge of managing reprints and providing support to the Editorial team with reformats and new titles when necessary. Your responsibilities will also involve reviewing proof materials and preparing sales and publicity content for briefings.


This hybrid role requires you to work in their offices in Fulham three days a week.
